The book of Judges covers a period of about 350 years between the time of Joshua and the first kings of Israel. It was a chaotic time marked by Israel’s repeated cycles of idolatry and moral decline as they adopted the ways and religions of the Canaanites.

They were frequently troubled by powerful enemies, and God raised a number of judges to deliver them. However, many of these judges were flawed individuals who themselves were infected by the large Canaanisation process that was taking place. Yet God patiently dealt with them and held steadily to His long-term plans in history.

The message of Judges has much relevance for the modern church. This book will be helpful to Bible readers and teachers.
